As it stands, the New York Giants are seen as the worst trade destination for NFL players ahead of the 2024-25 season. This analysis even put them on top of the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, two franchises few guys want play for recently.
The 2023 season was a challenging one for the New York Giants, as they failed to build upon their 9-7-1 record from the previous year. Despite the leadership of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, the Giants struggled to find consistency and were ultimately eliminated from playoff contention.
A historically poor offensive line was a significant factor in the Giants’ struggles, as they allowed an average of 5 sacks per game, the second-highest total in a single season in NFL history. The loss of starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a torn ACL in Week 9 further compounded the team’s issues, as they were unable to overcome the offensive line’s weaknesses.
The Giants were officially eliminated from contention for the NFC East title following an overtime loss by the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12. Their season continued to spiral, culminating in a Christmas Day defeat against the Eagles that officially ended their playoff hopes.
As the Giants look to the offseason, addressing the offensive line and finding stability at the quarterback position will be crucial priorities as they seek to return to postseason contention.
New York Giants Identified as the Worst Trade Destination Ahead of 2024 NFL Season
After a disappointing run last season, the Giants are hoping to make some progress this year. However, in an article for Bleacher Report, Alex Ballentine detailed why the team is the worst trade destination for NFL players.
“The Giants offense became more promising with the addition of Malik Nabers, but it’s going to take more than an electric rookie receiver to get things going. Darren Waller’s retirement leaves this team down another weapon, and the G-Men are going to have a hard time replacing Saquon Barkley’s production.
There are a lot of concerns on defense too. Replacing Wink Martindale with Shane Bowen is a transition that could take time, and New York is still looking for answers in the secondary.
The Giants aren’t cash-strapped in 2025, but they aren’t swimming in a pool of coins either. Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas all have cap hits over $20 million, and Jones is due to make $41.6 million.
Getting traded to the Giants would mean going to a team still searching for important answers on offense and defense without the guarantee of coaching stability or a big contract,” Ballentine wrote.
Last season the New York Giants finished with a 6-11 record in the NFC East division. Their offense was ranked 30th out of 32 teams while their defense was in 26th place.
It remains to be seen whether the Giants can get out of the rut they’re in or sink further. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on them in the coming months.
