New Orleans Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr suffered a shoulder injury in the game against the Minnesota Vikings that caused him to be out for the rest of the game. Carr was crushed on a hit by a Vikings defender after releasing his throw, causing him to land hard and awkwardly on his shoulder. He also was evaluated for a concussion as he hit his head hard on the ground.

Derek Carr Injury
Wm. Glasheen USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin
Backup quarterback Jameis Winston finished the rest of the game for New Orleans as Carr was ruled out for the rest of the game. Carr was slammed on the ground by Minnesota pass rusher Danielle Hunter after he completed a pass to his receiver Chris Olave in the third quarter. The quarterback stayed down on the field for a while and eventually was able to leave the field under his own power.
This would be a devastating loss for the Saints as Carr has not missed a start this season, and from the looks of the injury, it looks like a real possibility that he can miss some extra time. Carr was injured earlier in the season, but he was able to be ready for the team’s game the following week.
New Orleans Saints Career
The starting quarterback has amounted to 2,121 passing yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He is in his first year in New Orleans after coming over from the Las Vegas Raiders, who he was with since 2014. In his career, he has gone for 37,343 passing yards and 227 touchdowns and has solidified himself as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
The Saints are 5-4 and currently sit as the first-place team in the NFC South division. They will luckily have a bye next week before they face off against the Atlanta Falcons in week 12. New Orleans will have an extra week for Carr to recover, however, the injury looked to be serious, so it could take a little more time than that for him to be ready to play. This is an ongoing situation and will be updated throughout the week.
