The New England Patriots need a quarterback. They are done with Mac Jones, so they really need to find a replacement that they hope could help usher the team into the post-Bill Belichick era.
New England Patriots’ Draft Situation

Fortunately for the Patriots, with the no. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, they have a chance to draft one of the top quarterbacks in the class. With Caleb Williams projected to be the no. 1 pick, New England could be left to choose between Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye–depending on what the Washington Commanders do with the second overall pick.
However, if the Patriots are serious about quickly returning to relevance, they might want to consider trading up for the no. 1 pick and the chance to take Williams. He is widely considered the best QB in the class, and one of the most talented in recent memory.
Of course it’s unknown if the Bears would be willing to make a trade for the top pick. Nonetheless, if they opt to stick with Justin Fields and instead attempt to draft a non-QB, trading down might make sense. If that happens, New England should definitely pounce at the opportunity.
How Can the New England Patriots Trade for No. 1 Pick?

Now, the question is: What can the Patriots offer the Bears to trade the no. 1 pick? Well, it will definitely be costly, but in a time where a franchise quarterback is needed, New England will have to pay the price for a better future.
For what it’s worth, a recent mock trade from ESPN shared that the Patriots could send the third and 34th picks from the 2024 draft, as well as their 2025 first- and third-round picks to make the deal happen.
It’s a lot, but it’s a risk worth taking for a talent like Williams.
Here’s what the ESPN report wrote on the mock trade:
Jumping the Commanders should cost the Patriots much more, given that they’ll be competing against the teams drafting behind them in terms of what they’re willing to give up to move up. We haven’t really seen a trade like this in recent years, but remember that the Giants sent first-, third- and fifth-round picks in 2004 when they swapped Philip Rivers for Eli Manning.
Given that the Manning deal was for a player who wasn’t willing to play for the Chargers and came in the old CBA era when rookie deals were more expensive, moving up from No. 3 should cost more. The Bears would still be in position to draft the non-quarterback of their choosing here.
It remains to be seen if the New England Patriots would be able to pull off a trade for the no. 1 pick with the Chicago Bears. But if ever they see a chance, it would be foolish for Jerod Mayo and Co. not to even pick up the phone and call the Windy City franchise.
For now, fans can only wait and see what will happen in the 2024 NFL Draft.

So you think they should trade away the picks they need to fill the tackle and wr positions? And to draft a guy that isn’t as good as drake or jayden? Caleb is 6′ tall, short qbs rarely do well in the nfl. He also struggles to read defenses and almost always throws to first progression covered or not. Ability to check down is somewhat important at the next level. Didn’t handle losing very well of course it wasn’t his fault.
Great athlete and great arm, no question, but not enough to trade up for him. I am scared that he will fall to 3rd and they will take him instead of trading the pick.
I say stay at 3 and take Joe alt.
