The New England Patriots are toiling to regain the dominance they enjoyed over the NFL for much of this century with a new head coach in Jerod Mayo.
As part of the regime change that is expected to happen in Foxborough, the Patriots are expected to take a quarterback with the third overall pick of the 2023 draft. After the failure of the Mac Jones experiment, it would be insane if the Patriots didn’t gamble on a high-ceiling signal caller.
Daniel Jeremiah: New England Patriots not selecting QB at 3 would leave him “stunned”
Trusted NFL draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah strongly believes that the New England Patriots are leaning towards selecting a quarterback with their first pick as there is a wealth of high-value rookies in the position.
He spoke about the possible moves the Patriots could do during the coverage of the Senior Bowl, and he only considered QB as the only position the Patriots should look to select at Pick No. 3:
During today’s Senior Bowl broadcast, NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said he would be “stunned” if the Patriots did not draft a quarterback No. 3 overall. Jeremiah said that he expects all of the teams picking in the top three – the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders and New England Patriots – to take a quarterback, though he isn’t “100-percent sure” about the Commanders.
The options for the Patriots at quarterback should be plentiful at No. 3 though. Between Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix, they will have no shortage of options to evaluate before the draft.
Assuming Caleb Williams is out of the draft pool within the first two picks of the draft, the New England Patriots would still have at least three rookies they can select with the selection. All of the top prospects at QB have shown the potential that they can thrive at the NFL level and would be a great piece for Mayo to build around.
If we look at the incoming rookies, almost any of them would do a better job than what Mac Jones showed with the New England Patriots this season. Through 11 games, he threw for 2120 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Since his stock with the team is fully shattered, it is in the team’s best interests to look elsewhere and start fresh with a potential franchise QB in the draft.
