The New England Patriots need some more talent on the offensive side of the ball. There are a few different routes they could take, one of which is trading for a big time receiver. There are a few things to consider when trading away draft capital. One is how much potential could a player from another franchise have when he is brought into New England’s offense? How will the new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt use a new weapon? These are very important questions to answer before giving up assets to bring in a new player. The Patriots should do their due diligence on whether or not it would be worth it to bring in a true number one receiver via the trade market.
A potential player the Patriots could look into is Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf. Metcalf is an elite athlete with the ability to make a play on any given down. He has great size and can go up high to make amazing catches. Metcalf is a player who demands attention from opposing defenses because if not, he will tear team apart. With the addition of a star like Metcalf, it would open the rest of the field up for other players to make plays, By dictating coverage and requiring a double team, Metcalf is more than just a single receiver, because he allows other receivers to get favorable matchups. At age twenty six, DK has plenty of playing time left, which is perfect for the Patriots, who need a star of the future.
Another player that could become available for trade is San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk has been in the media recently showing his unhappiness with the 49ers organization. After the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, it is clear Aiyuk feels as though he wasn’t used properly in the big game. If Aiyuk wants out of San Francisco, the Patriots should definitely be making a call to check what type of draft capital it would take to acquire him. Aiyuk is one of the league’s best route runners and can consistently get open downfield. He would be a perfect go to target for a rookie quarterback if New England chooses to select one when the NFL Draft rolls around in April. If the asking price isn’t too high for a solid player like AIyuk, then New England should consider making a move.
Will a trade make the difference for New England?
The Patriots need to consider all options when it comes to improving their offense in 2024. If they believe they can get an elite talent without having to give up a huge amount of draft capital, they should make a move. Especially since they have so many holes on their offensive roster. By bringing in talented players, it is showing the Foxborough Faithful that they have reason to be excited again.
