The New England Patriots brought in talented tight end Mike Gesicki this offseason on a one-year deal. The hope was that he could bring some extra juice to the offense that has struggled to find dynamic pass-catchers. Now, his week 1 status is in jeopardy. Gesicki left practice today after he dislocated his shoulder.
New England Patriots Mike Gesicki Dislocates Shoulder
He suffered the injury during a drill and a source who knew about the injury called it a mild dislocation. While the timeline for recovery is still unclear, the hope in the organization is that he can be ready by week 1. Gesicki was set to be a two-headed tight-end monster with Hunter Henry. This would give quarterback Mac Jones two big targets, especially in the red zone. For an offense that is trying to have a bounce-back season, they need their weapons on the field.
Tall Task In The AFC East
The AFC East is one of the toughest divisions in football. The Bills, Jets, and Dolphins all have legit cases for a Super Bowl run. The Patriots are by no means a bad team but the talent on paper is much less than the other three teams. I am not one to count out Bill Belichick and the Patriots’ defense but it will be a tough hill to climb. They will need a lot of things to go right and with the injury to Gesicki, things aren’t off to a great start.
The New England Patriots will hope that the injury to Mike Gesicki is minor and he can be back on the field soon. The Patriots are a fascinating team in 2023 as they could play spoiler to a lot of contenders.
