New England Patriots fans should be very familiar with defensive lineman Trey Flowers. A fourth-round pick by the team in 2015, he won two Super Bowls with the team. He then signed a big-money contract to follow Matt Patricia to the Lions. His stints elsewhere mostly ended in injuries but now he returns to New England to help strengthen the defensive line.
New England Patriots Sign Trey Flowers
The almost 30-year-old worked out for the team on Monday. It must have gone very well because the team signed him the next day. His best years happened in New England and the good news for the team is it shouldn’t take much for Flowers to get acclimated. The scheme hasn’t changed drastically since he left so getting him up to speed before week 1 should be doable. The Patriots are in the toughest division in football and will need to get after many great quarterbacks. Flowers should definitely help with that.
Run Of Edge Rushers Have Signed
Flowers isn’t the only edge rusher to get a deal this week. Justin Houston landed with the Panthers on a one-year deal. This was after edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue signed with the Chicago Bears. As the start of the season gets closer, teams are more willing to take a flyer on a player for a one-year deal. The players are to a point where they know they are not going to get a long-term deal and are simply trying to prove they deserve one.
Does this move the needle for the New England Patriots? Trey Flowers should help but the real question is whether he can stay healthy for an entire season.
