It was a rough day at practice for New England Patriots rookie Kayshon Boutte. The ultra-talented receiver has had many questions about his game and character which caused him to fall to the sixth round. The Patriots took a flyer on him but many analysts were predicting that he would be fighting for a roster spot. Now, it looks even more likely that he may be on the outside looking in. Boutte was absolutely blasted at practice by offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

Boutte apparently said something to his offensive coordinator and Bill O’Brien fired back, “This isn’t LSU B….. Shut the F up and line up”. This is not the type of interaction that you want to have when you are fighting for a roster spot. The Patriots have a glut of receivers and are in the mix for DeAndre Hopkins. Boutte may be on the outside looking in simply because there isn’t a roster spot for him. Ticking off coaches though is not usually a way to win a spot.

    Too Harsh?

At least one player came to the defense of Boutte. Patriots defensive back Jalen Mills posted on Twitter, “You would think we should work on building up these young players rather than tear them down before they even start their careers.” I’m all for tough love but sometimes a little encouragement can go a long way. Especially with a talent like Boutte, the Patriots could have a steal on their hands if they develop correctly. Still, whatever was said to O’Brien clearly was not the right thing to say.

New England Patriots rookie Kayshon Boutte needs to adjust to the NFL. The hope is that this interaction motivates him more and he can win a spot in training camp.
