The New England Patriots have struggled on offense throughout the year. While aspects of the New England Patriots offense have had their share of the responsibility in the poor play, the offensive line is one unit that has seen an uptick in improvement through the season. While a lot of question marks loom over this organization for next year, one player has made his intentions known for the upcoming offseason.
New England Patriots Offensive Line Player
Offensive lineman Trent Brown will be testing and is looking forward to the free-agent waters after the regular season ends.
Speaking with A to Z Sports reporter Sophie Weller, he not only mentioned how extension talks had stalled but also the desire to see about other potential opportunities.
It’d be kind of like, I feel like I’d be kind of doing myself a disservice to not see what other opportunities are out there, just at this point.
For the left tackle, it has been a year of playing through injuries. Including the passing of a close relative of his, Brown has been dealing with a lot on and off the field. However, at this point, he was expecting a contract extension to have been worked on by this point of the season. Not seem to be alarmed he understands the public turmoil that has been going on within the New England Patriots organization and is looking to see how other teams might be able to utilize his skillset this season.
New England Patriots After The Last Contract
According to the same report, Brown was expected to have reached an agreement by now. Having taken a brief hiatus to the Las Vegas Raiders, his last contract looked promising that he would be tied up long-term with the New England Patriots.
When I signed two years ago, I was told that I would, if I had a good year then I would, we should get it fixed. It never happened.
Whether he is not viewed as a long-term solution or the extent of his injuries has been too much to evaluate his performance this year, the New England Patriots do not appear to be in a hurry to sign him to a long-term extension anytime soon.
Although the line has noticed when he is missing, fans also point to moments of seeming indifferent and not showing full effort when he is on the field.
New England Patriots Versus The Buffalo Bills
While the exact extent of his ankle and knee injuries is not known at this time, it does appear that he has been playing through a lot to protect in what has ended up being a losing season. If this has an impact on how the New England Patriots view the left tackle, it makes sense why there have not been any moves one way or another as of now.
While Brown was listed as a nonparticipant during Wednesday’s practice due to an illness, his name did not make the final injury report for the game against the Bills. If he is limited or becomes a late scratch, Connor McDermott would see an increased role as we have seen him taking over snaps at the left tackle position as we have been seeing as of late.
