New England Patriots are coming off of a stunning Christmas Eve performance victory against the Denver Broncos. Despite winning two out of the last three games, some have noticed an uptick of public displeasure coming from one of the players. After a notable absence from Wednesday’s practice, some are wondering what the unlikely future with the franchise will hold for him.
New England Patriots Offensive Line Player Absent
During the media available portion of Wednesday’s practice, Trent Brown was absent. Listed as an illness, and not a specific injury in the report, it is unknown at this point how this will affect is status for Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
According to a report from Mike Reiss, Trent Brown was not spotted at the practice, and pointed out the odd usage and rotations that he has been a part of lately. After the game, what has become a very much missed of the Matthew Slater ‘Aw Yeah’, he could be seen not exactly looking happy or being part of the moment with his teammates.
A free agent after the end of this season, many are speculating that he will find a home else where for next year. After signing a two year deal in 2022, after coming back to the New England Patriots from the Las Vegas Raiders, a restructured deal gave him increased incentives. The new deal kept his remaining contract timeline the same, but upped his financial compensation. This makes this a contact year, and one that has ongoing signals from him that he does not appear interested in rejoining next year.
His is not the only absence from Wednesday practice. Jalen Mills was present, but dressed in street clothes. Jabrill Peppers, Rhamondre Stevenson were also absent, and were not seen by media members.
New England Patriots Public Displeasure
While not the only player that has played through injuries or voiced displeasure of the team letting go of Malik Cunningham, the combination of how things have unfolded with him this season leaves many fans to think that he will leave after the season.
Again, multiple New England Patriots players have voiced their support for their former teammate. However, Trent Brown’s voice was the harshest, and most direct.
Go flourish where your talent is respected
After his departure to the Baltimore Ravens, multiple former teammates from the New England Patriots voiced how much they supported Malik Cunningham. But it is the harshness that stood out from Trent Brown.
Overall Disconnect
Before the season even started, Trent Brown showed up late to camp, showing up a day late, without the best of communication. Showing up out of shape, he was sent down to a different field, to work out with teh rehabbing players.
Being in and out of the rotation due to injuries, and apparent demeanor, see the plays here:

Considering his lack of effort on plays and public voicing of how he feels playing for the New England Patriots, it is hard to see him coming back next year. It just seems like it would be best for both parties if Trent Brown could find a more enjoyable football playing situation for himself.
