Last season was one New England Patriots fans may want to forget, especially after finishing with a horrendous 4-13 record. The possible arrival of Jacksonville Jaguars edge Josh Allen, though, could help the team turn things around next season.
For the first time since 1993, the Patriots experienced back-to-back losing seasons after the team failed to make the playoffs. As a result, longtime head coach Bill Belichick was let go by New England at the start of 2024.
This development doesn’t come as a surprise since the Patriots had the second-worst offense in the NFL. Even if their defense was in the upper half of the league, New England’s offensive lineup was on par with their opponents most of the time.Even as the Patriots can possibly have another losing year, there are still some moves to be made in free agency. One example is the potential signing of Allen and the addition of his projected $119.9 million contract to the books.
New England Patriots Considered The Best Landing Spot for Jacksonville Jaguars’ Josh Allen
While the team could use some help on offense, Allen’s possible contributions on defense seem too good to pass up on. Kristopher Knox explained more in his article for Bleacher Report:
“The New England Patriots are in the beginning stages of their rebuild under new head coach Jerod Mayo, but they could intrigue Allen as well. Though New England struggled last season, it still fielded the league’s seventh-ranked defense.
If Mayo maintains the multi-front defense the Patriots employed under Bill Belichick, Allen would be the perfect fit. Allen could play linebacker or end in 3-4, 4-3 or 3-3-5 alignments, and he’d have an elite pass-rushing counterpart in Matthew Judon,” Knox wrote.
Using that logic, it looks like Allen will fit right in if the Patriots pursue him in free agency. With his size and talent, it’s safe to say that New England’s defense will benefit from his presence in the lineup.
It’s still yet unknown where Allen will land in the coming days. In any case, having him with the Patriots makes a lot of sense down the road. For More Of My Content
