The Cleveland Browns have a good team on paper this season, and they’ll need some players to step up. Jacoby Brissett will obviously have to play well, but this cornerback could be a big piece on defense.
Greg Newsome II Will Look to Build on Rookie Season
Now, if Newsome has a poor year, that doesn’t mean the entire Browns’ defense will falter. It’s just that if he does play well, the Browns’ pass defense would be fantastic. He had a strong rookie season last year, and he continues to play well in training camp.

If Newsome can play well this season, he and Denzel Ward can be a great cornerback duo. He even wants to prove to everyone that they can be great.
“At the end of the day, we just gotta prove it more. It doesn’t matter about rankings or anything like that honestly. We just gotta get our respect, and to get our respect, we gotta earn it every single day. That’s gonna start at practice every day, just getting better and then obviously we’ll be able to show it this season.”
He also says that he likes seeing negative things on social media so he gets motivation from it.
“I love negative things on social media about me. I think it’s just gonna motivate me. I’m one of those people that when I see that stuff, I don’t get mad. I get motivated. Obviously we’re not on there. We’re not doing something right yet, so we’ll get there this season.”
Newsome played really well last season. In the 12 games he played last season, he finished with a second-best PFF coverage grade of 70.6. He defended nine passes last season, but he is still looking for his first interception.
If he can continue to grow as a player, Newsome can really contribute to the Browns’ defense.
