The Minnesota Vikings have a quarterback issue to address this offseason. Kirk Cousins is expected to become a free agent which means he may have already played his last game in Vikings uniform. If Cousins ends up somewhere else, the Vikings will have to find a replacement. One name Rich Eisen brought up as a potential target for the Vikings is Dallas Cowboys backup Trey Lance (h/t Tyler Forness of Vikings Wire).
“Trey Lance is a possible solve for the Vikings. Now the Cowboys picked up Lance and kept him on the roster long enough to get a bonus, so they are paying him money to keep him. They got him for a 5(th round pick) so I’m just wondering if the Vikings flip them a 3, a Friday night pick, do they go ahead and do that? Trey Lance as we all know, you also have to pick up a fifth year option. I’m just saying that the possibility is out there. The kid (Lance) is from the state as we all know and that might be an answer.”
Trey Lance To The Minnesota Vikings?
The Minnesota Vikings own the No. 11 pick overall at the 2024 NFL Draft and there is no way they will be letting that go for someone like Lance. But they also have a couple of picks in the fourth round, two more in the fifth round, and a pair as well in the sixth round.
Lance was acquired by the Cowboys via a trade with the San Francisco 49ers last August. Dallas needed only to send a 2024 fourth-rounder to complete the deal. That’s a good benchmark for the Minnesota Vikings when thinking of what kind of trade package they could send to Arlington to get the former third-pick overall.
