Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins recently suffered a torn Achilles that has put him out for the remainder of the 2023 season. Since his injury, the team has signed Joshua Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals to take his place, which has been going well for them. A report came out about Cousins and head coach Kevin O’Connell‘s feelings about the injured quarterback returning to the team next season.

Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Plan
According to the report, both Cousins and O’Connell are very receptive to the quarterback returning to the team next season. Cousins was in the midst of the best statistical season of his career before suffering the season-ending injury, however, he has had his fair share of struggles in certain situations. This has led to rumors that Cousins will be playing on a different team next year, especially with how well Dobbs has been playing.
Now, these rumors might be starting to die out as the Vikings said that they intend to keep Cousins through next season, which will most likely mean that Dobbs will seek a starting job elsewhere. Cousins was a part of many trade rumors before the trade deadline about seeking a trade, however, he shut them down rather quickly.
Kirk Cousins’ Potential Historic Season

The Vikings’ veteran quarterback finished his season with 2,331 passing yards and 18 touchdowns along with five interceptions. He was on pace to be the total passing yards leader in the league before tearing his Achilles and was on historic pace. Since then, it has been Dobbs under center for Minnesota, and he has delivered the team a pair of wins in his first two games. Dobbs is starting to establish himself as a true QB1, which will likely cause him to be released next year if the team keeps Cousins.
Minnesota is currently 6-4 and sits in second place in the NFC North. They will travel to Colorado this week to take on the Denver Broncos, who have been on a hot streak the last couple of weeks. We will see if Dobbs can keep his momentum going, and what the future will look like for him and Cousins.
