Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is entering the last year of his deal. The 35-year-old quarterback has not signed an extension and the team has hinted that they may not want to have the quarterback on the roster in 2024 and beyond. Cousins is hoping to stay with Minnesota long-term.
Minnesota Vikings Kirk Cousins Is Hoping To Be Back
Cousins was very clear about where he wants to be next year. “I want to be in Minnesota. That’s kind of a no-brainer,” Cousins told reporters. “So, hopefully, we can earn the right to do that.” He knows that this will not be given to him. He needs to earn it but he has enjoyed his time in Minnesota.
“I don’t think you go there,” Cousins said when asked if he thinks about it potentially being his final season in Minnesota. “I think it’s healthiest to be present. To be focused on Phase 2, Wednesday, and live right now in the moment. And again, when you do that, you just do it day after day, and you get to next February, and you say, ‘Everything will work out.’ It’s just best to stay in the present to have March go the way you want it to go.”
Cousins is planning to stick in the present and control what he can control and that is this season.
High Expectations
The Vikings have some high expectations for this season. After 13 wins last year, the Vikings are hoping to duplicate that success. They have Justin Jefferson and newly drafted Jordan Addison who could be one of the best receiving duos in the league. The defense is going to be the issue. Patrick Peterson left in free agency leaving them with a hole at cornerback. While the offense will put up points, the defense might have a problem stopping anyone. However, in a weak NFC, it is anyone’s guess what will happen.
It will be interesting to see what the Minnesota Vikings decide to do with Kirk Cousins. They did not draft a quarterback with a premium pick and might be waiting to see if another veteran comes available next offseason.
