Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers is feared to have torn his Achilles in today’s win against the Atlanta Falcons. Akers suffered the injury late in the game when he fell to the ground awkwardly after catching a pass and went down immediately after. He was taken to the locker room shortly after and was ruled out for the rest of the game.
Vikings’ HC Kevin O’Connell told reporters that RB Cam Akers suffered an Achilles injury today.

Minnesota Vikings Injury Bug
The injury bug seems to be hitting the Vikings hard this season, and this would not be the first torn Achilles one of the team’s key players has suffered. Quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered the same injury last week and has now been ruled out for the season. Akers has suffered an Achilles injury earlier in his career, so this would be a devastating blow to him and the team.
Akers was also serving as the Vikings’ emergency quarterback today after Backup Jaren Hall went out early in the game with a concussion, causing Joshua Dobbs to be the starter for the rest of the matchup. The injury was believed to be an ankle injury, and it has now turned into something much more serious.
Cam Akers History
The running back had 25 yards on the ground with eight carries along with three receptions for 13 yards. He joined Minnesota this season after being let go by the Los Angeles Rams and was looking forward to re-establishing his career. It looks like that will be put on hold if he is to have officially suffered a torn Achilles.
The Vikings have improved to a 5-5 record on the 2023 season and have won four straight games after starting 1-4. They currently sit in second place in the NFC North and are looking to make a competitive run for the top spot. Their next two opponents are the New Orleans Saints and the Denver Broncos, which are two winnable games for them. However, they will continue to roll with Dobbs as the quarterback, so we will see if he can keep his mojo going.
