The Minnesota Vikings have decided who will be their starting quarterback for Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons.
According to Adam Schefter, head coach Kevin O’Connell stated that the Vikings plan to start rookie QB Jaren Hall in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. This will be Hall’s first start in the NFL.
Jaren Hall
Jaren Hall was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, going 164th overall. He played at BYU during his college tenure.
Hall was at BYU for five seasons. His last two years there were his most notable. He threw 51 touchdowns, 5,754 passing yards, and just 11 interceptions during that stretch.
Now, he will have a chance to show us if he can keep those numbers up in the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings’ Quarterback Situation
The biggest thing looming with the Minnesota Vikings right now is the health of QB Kirk Cousins. Unfortunately, he tore his Achilles during last week’s win over the Green Bay Packers. As a result, Cousins is now out for the season.
This happened right when the Vikings were starting to get things together. After starting the season 1-4, they have won their last three games.
This had many people wondering if the Vikings would look to acquire a quarterback from another team to keep their playoff hopes alive. Well, just hours ago, they did just that.
Minnesota traded for QB Joshua Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals. Dobbs started the first eight games of the season for the Cardinals. He threw 1,569 passing yards and eight touchdown passes.
Why Is Dobbs Not Starting?
Given the trade information discussed above, this could leave many fans scratching their heads.
Why is not Dobbs starting in Sunday’s game for the Minnesota Vikings? This is a valid question.
Two things to note are that the Cardinals went just 1-7 in the games that Dobbs started this season. More importantly, Dobbs only started two games in the NFL before the 2023 season.
Another thing to consider here is Dobbs having to learn a whole new system. Hall has been on the team since training camp, so it could arguably be easier to run routine offensive plays with him as quarterback.
If this is the case, we could see news next week that Dobbs is ready to go for the Minnesota Vikings. However, if Hall continues to be the starter from here on out, then this recent trade could be viewed a lot differently.
