Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh was not in the mood to entertain questions about his future with the team on Monday. After all, all he could think at the moment was celebrate with his team.
Many members of the media were waiting for the day that the College Football Playoff National Championship ends partly because there could finally be an answer to one of the most pressing questions in college football: Will Harbaugh jump back to the NFL and leave the Wolverines?
Harbaugh has been linked with a number of NFL teams and potential head coaching vacancies over the course of the regular season. It only intensified after he was embroiled in the sign stealing scandal that got him suspended.
Sure enough, after he guided the Wolverines to the title win against the Washington Huskies on Sunday, everybody wanted to know what he plans to do next. Fresh off winning his first top silverware as a coach, many wonder whether he will run it back in Michigan or retake the challenge that he previously failed on.
Nonetheless, Harbaugh didn’t want to talk about that, at least not while they are in a festive mood after the win. And he made sure to make that request to the reporters who were raring to ask questions about his next step.
“I just want to enjoy this. I hope you can give me that. Can a guy have that? Does it always have to be what’s next, what’s the future?” Harbaugh said when asked about potentially going back to the NFL, via The Athletic.
Who can blame Jim Harbaugh, though? It’s certainly not the best time to ask such questions, especially to a coach who just won and was having the best moment of his career. Sure enough, media members shouldn’t have expected an answer.
There will definitely be a time that Harbaugh addresses those concerns, but Monday’s wasn’t that day.
Jim Harbaugh Did Address Michigan Wolverines’ Off-Field Issue
While Jim Harbaugh refused to talk about his future, he didn’t hold back when addressing the sign-stealing scandal that rocked the college football world during the 2023 season. It even got Harbaugh suspended.
Interestingly, the veteran head coach denied their involvement and emphasized their innocence.
“The off-the-field issues, we’re innocent and we stood strong and tall because we knew we were innocent. And I’d like to point that out. And these guys are innocent. And overcome that, it wasn’t that hard because we knew we were innocent,” Harbaugh said.
Regardless of the issues, though, Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines deserve to celebrate and enjoy the moment that they earned for themselves.
