Michigan had its spring game on Saturday, and when spring football ends, the transfer portal opens up for many players. One Michigan player who was competing for a starting job has decided to enter the transfer portal.
Michigan Has Done A Great Job Keeping Players
After Michigan won the title three months ago, head coach Jim Harbaugh took the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers, and when a head coach leaves their college football team, many players leave and look to go somewhere else. We saw this a handful of times this season when Nick Saban left Alabama, and Kalen DeBoer left Washington. Many players from those schools entered the portal since their coach was gone. The Wolverine’s new head coach, Sherrone Moore, did a great job keeping players from hitting the portal.
One player many people thought would hit the portal was star cornerback Will Johnson, who couldn’t enter the NFL Draft this year because he was only a true sophomore last season, meaning he needs one more year of college before he can enter. Still, Johnson ended up staying, but one of the players who could be playing on the opposite side of him has entered the portal.
DJ Waller Is In The Transfer Portal
According to reports, cornerback DJ Waller has put his name into the transfer portal. Waller was expected to compete to be the starting cornerback on the opposite side of Johnson, but now, with Waller entering the portal, the depth at defensive back gets thinner.
Can confirm that Michigan DB DJ Waller has entered the transfer portal. A bit of a stunner.https://t.co/3T9hNQI0b1

The Wolverines Already Lost One Of Their Best Defensive Backs To Injury
About a month ago, Michigan’s starting safety, Rod Moore, suffered a knee injury during spring practice that could cost him the entire 2024 season. It’s bad enough that the Wolverines have lost many players at that side of the ball to the NFL Draft, and losing one of the best players to an injury who was supposed to play significant snaps is just a considerable blow to a team looking to repeat as champions.
