Michigan has been hit with reality this season that it isn’t close to the same team it was the past few years, and many factors have led it down this path.
This offseason, their former head coach, Jim Harbaugh, left and headed to the NFL, and many of the players from last year’s team, including quarterback J.J. McCarthy, also left and headed to the league.
Michigan Is Having A Hard Time This Season

McCarthy was a great quarterback who made many big-time plays and was one of the main reasons they brought home the national title last season. However, they were also caught in a cheating scandal that involved stealing opposing teams’ signs.
Since Michigan can’t steal opposing teams’ signals anymore due to plays being called in through the helmet, the Wolverines have not looked great at all.
Over a month ago, they were beaten by Texas, and then this week, they lost at Washington. Even though Michigan has had quarterback issues this season, their defense brought a lot of stars back, like cornerback Will Johnson and tackle Mason Graham, and the unit doesn’t look good.
The Wolverines look lost on both sides of the ball, whether due to a lack of experienced players or not knowing what play is coming as they did in past years.

Michigan was having a hard time winning games before they started stealing signs in 2021, and then they became one of the best teams in the sport, and now that they aren’t cheating anymore, they fell back to being mediocre.
It will be interesting to see how Michigan does the rest of the season, but right now, they don’t look like a team that will even get close to eight wins.
There are a handful of issues on the roster, and it also doesn’t help they can’t turn to their sign-stealing leader, Connor Stalions, and get the opposing team’s plays.
