ESPN College GameDay will be in Ann Arbor, Michigan, tomorrow for Michigan Football’s tilt against rival Ohio State. An undefeated Wolverines squad, led by head coach Jim Harbaugh, will host fellow unbeaten, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in one of the most impactful games of the season. The Michigan-Ohio State football rivalry is always a must-watch game, but Saturday’s rendition carries importance regarding the College Football Playoff.
The winner of the 119th meeting between these two storied programs all but undoubtedly punches their ticket to the CFP, while the loser will need help from other teams to make the field of four. With the importance of the game looming, College GameDay pulled out all the stops and, per On3, will have former Michigan Wolverines megastar Aidan Hutchinson join the program as a guest picker.
Aidan Hutchinson: Current Detroit Lions Star Shined with Wolverines
Aidan Hutchinson, the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, played with the Michigan Wolverines from 2018-2021. He broke out during his senior season, tallying 62 tackles, 16.5 TFLs, 14.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles. His sack total placed him third in the NCAA that year. Hutchinson dominated award season, including being named a unanimous All-American. The edge rusher earned the Lombardi Award, the Lott Trophy Award, and the Ted Hendricks Award (college football’s top defensive end) for his standout performance as a senior.
During his short NFL career with the Detroit Lions, Hutchinson has shined, recording 15.0 sacks in 28 games. He finished second in the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2022, narrowly losing out to New York Jets star defensive back Sauce Gardner. The 23-year-old has played a significant role in the Lions’ turnaround, especially this season, with the team sitting atop the NFC North Divisional standings with him as their sack leader.
Michigan Football: Facing Toughest Test of the Year on Saturday
College GameDay will travel north on Saturday for what fans view as the game of the year. Michigan will host the Ohio State Buckeyes in the final contest of the regular season, with both teams entering the finale undefeated. The winner of Saturday’s game becomes a virtual lock for the College Football Playoff while keeping their hopes alive to finish the season undefeated and win the Big Ten Championship Game.
The Michigan Wolverines will bring a ruckus crowd to “The Big House” in Week 13. Michigan Stadium houses over 107,000 in seating capacity while once hosting over 115,000. Much of the Michigan faithful attending Saturday’s game will be in attendance for ESPN’s College GameDay, making tomorrow’s show potentially one for the record books.
