If the season ended today, the Miami Hurricanes would be comfortably inside the College Football Playoff field. At 6-0, Miami football is one of ten teams in the AP Poll Top 25 to hold an undefeated record. However, last-second wins over Cal and Virginia Tech have the Hurricanes borderline lucky to be among the last teams to maintain a perfect record this season. Miami’s narrow victories have not been lost on the team, with star wide receiver Xavier Restrepo revealing the team had a players-only meeting ahead of their first bye week.
The Miami Hurricanes are one of many teams to hold a players-only meeting this week, with the Oklahoma Sooners roster getting together after a brutal 34-3 loss to the Texas Longhorns. Unlike the Hurricanes, the Sooners have little to no chance of earning a CFP berth in 2024.
Miami Hurricanes Hold Players Only Meeting
According to Marcus Benjamin of Rivals:
Miami WR Xavier Restrepo on why the team held a players-only meeting: “Guys on the team are not satisfied with 6-0.”
Meanwhile, Miami LB Kiko Mauigoa on the team having a player’s only meeting: “Everybody’s just hungry.”
Last weekend, the Miami Hurricanes visited the California Golden Bears, one of the newest members of the ACC. Despite entering as more than a touchdown favorite and owning nearly 40 minutes of possession time, Miami needed a late and frantic rally to emerge victorious. The Hurricanes scored the final three touchdowns en route to a shocking 39-38 win. Quarterback Cam Ward went 35-of-53 for 437 yards and two touchdowns.
The week prior, Miami again rallied late, scoring the final two touchdowns to beat the Virginia Tech Hokies at home 38-34. On the final play, Virginia Tech connected on a walk-off 30-yard touchdown pass before replay review wiped away the score. Miami will enjoy a weekend off before visiting the formerly ranked Louisville Cardinals.
