Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins had a season to remember. Unfortunately, the Associated Press does not seem to share this sentiment for their NFL MVP award. Find out who Tyreek Hill got snubbed for below.
NFL MVP Finalists Revealed
Earlier today, the finalists for the NFL MVP award were revealed. Those finalists were the following:
- QB Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
- QB Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
- QB Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
- QB Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
- RB Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers
As you can see, Tyreek Hill was left off of this list. He is arguably the biggest snub considering what kind of numbers he put up this season. Let’s take a closer look at those numbers.
Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill’s Numbers
So, what kind of numbers did Hill put up this season? For starters, he had 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdown receptions. He led the NFL in both categories.
On top of this, Hill was just 165 receiving yards shy of the record for most receiving yards in a single season. That record is still held by Calvin Johnson, which he set in 2012. Unfortunately, Johnson did not win the NFL MVP award in that season either.
You can argue that Hill would have broken the record if he had been able to play in Week 15 against the New York Jets. The Dolphins won that game 30-0. Plus, WR Jaylen Waddle put up 142 receiving yards in that game.
Wide Receiver Disrespect?
Cooper Kupp came even closer to Johnson’s single season record two years ago. Despite this, he did not win the NFL MVP award either. Now, Hill is not even getting finalist recognition for the season he had. It just goes to show that wide receivers can put up truly historical numbers and still do not have any chance at winning this award.
