The Miami Dolphins will face the Kansas City Chiefs during Super Wild Card Weekend on Saturday, but that hasn’t stopped megastar wide receiver Tyreek Hill from taking time out of his day to suggest one of his coaches for a head coaching role. Per his Twitter (also known as X), Hill posted his love for position coach Wes Welker. The All-Pro called him underrated and advocated for him to receive a head coaching gig.

Welker has coached wide receivers with the Miami Dolphins since 2022. Hill posted a career-high 1,710 receiving yards with the AFC East club last year before setting a new personal best with 1,799 yards this season. He led the NFL with 13 receiving touchdowns and a ludicrous 112.4 receiving yards per game.
Miami Dolphins WR Coach Wes Welker: Former NFL Star
Welker went undrafted in 2004, signing with the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers released him after one game, opening the door for the Miami Dolphins to ink him. The five-foot-nine wideout spent the next two-plus seasons with the Dolphins, catching 96 passes for 1,121 yards and one score. Miami traded Welker to the New England Patriots in 2007. The Texas Tech product spent the next six years with the Pats, playing with future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady. He earned first-team All-Pro honors three times, highlighted by leading the league in receptions thrice.
Welker shifted to the Denver Broncos in 2013, playing with another Hall of Fame quarterback, Peyton Manning. He tallied 122 receptions, 1,242 yards, and 12 touchdowns during that span. After one season with the St. Louis Rams in 2015, he retired. The Oklahoma native quickly shifted to the NFL, taking an offensive assistant job with the Houston Texans under former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien in 2017. After two seasons, he joined Kyle Shanahan with the San Francisco 49ers as a receivers coach. He followed fellow assistant Mike McDaniel to Miami for the 2022 season, where he has been ever since.
Wide Receivers Under Wes Welker
Welker has coached some of the NFL’s best wide receivers despite starting the gig in 2019. Star playmaker Deebo Samuel posted an All-Pro season in Welker’s last season with the 49ers. He snagged 77 receptions for 1,405 yards on a league-best 18.2 yards per reception. Brandon Aiyuk also continued to grow as a wide receiver under Welker. Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill has 3,509 receiving yards in two years with Welker. Fellow receiver Jaylen Waddle also posted a career-best 1,356 yards last season, his first with Welker as his head coach.
