The Miami Dolphins were able to improve to 2-0 and are in first place in the AFC East after a 24-17 win over the New England Patriots. It was not the offensive explosion that their Week One 36-34 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers was in Week One, but stars Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa still were able to leave their mark on the game.
Tagovailoa threw for 249 yards and a touchdown while Hill had five receptions for 40 yards and a score. The offensive star of the game, though, was running back Raheem Mostert, who had 18 carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
The win was an impressive one for the Dolphins for two reasons. First, their defense stepped up after allowing 34 points to Los Angeles in Week One. Second, they proved that their offense is not one-dimensional. Patriots coach Bill Belichick often had five or more defensive backs on the field to limit the Dolphins’ passing attack. It did not matter, though, as Miami put up 145 yards on the ground.
Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill Calls Out New England Patriots Fans After the Win
After the game, Hill was asked about Patriots fans and things that were said to him during the game. He did not hold back his disdain for that particular fanbase in his answer (via ESPN):
“Those fans are some of the worst fans in the NFL. And I’m going to stand on that; they are real nasty. Some of the things they were saying, I wouldn’t say in church. So yeah, it felt great to wave goodbye to the fans, and I’ll do it again. Bye.”
Back in 2018, when Hill was with the Kansas City Chiefs, a Patriots fan was charged with disorderly conduct after throwing a beer bottle at Hill.
Hill’s comments come in the wake of Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison sharing messages he received from fans over social media calling him racial slurs and threatening his life. While Hill has his own history with Patriots fans that influence opinion, one thing is certain: there are trashy fans everywhere.
If fans allow a game (A GAME) to bring this type of behavior out, perhaps they should spend their Sundays in therapy instead.
