Miami Dolphins Fans Erupt Over Former Team Captain Getting Cut

The Miami Dolphins are not out of the playoff race just yet even though they have started the season at 3-6. They have a real opportunity to be able to get the seventh seed in the AFC and with many key players, including their star quarterback, coming back from injury, they will try to make a real push to get into the postseason.

Strangely, however, part of their push for the playoffs has come with a very rare move. It is even rare when a player who gets voted as team captain is benched, but the Dolphins have not only benched but cut a player who was voted as captain by the other players on the team, and arguably their best linebacker from last season. Fans are shocked to say the least, that a team favorite was dropped so suddenly.

The Dolphins decided to cut their team captain David Long Jr. leaving fans in shock over the move as they prepare to go on a big win streak to sneak into the postseason. They made many other moves on Wednesday including adding another tight Jack Still off the waivers and giving a huge update to their offensive line.

Long just signed a very nice 2 year $11 million deal after a great season last year, and he clearly was a leader in the locker room. In the last couple of weeks, Long only played on special teams so it does not come as a huge shock.

“Rare to see a player voted as a captain waived that season. David Long Jr. falls into that category. Did good work against the run last year. It’s a tough league,” said Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The Dolphins have had great play from the linebackers but it is quite shocking to fans that a team favorite would be cut after just two months of poor play. Here are some of the best Dolphins fans’ reaction to the shocking cut:

David Long Jr waived? I know he was bad this year but wow
