The Miami Dolphins will attempt to replicate last season’s success in 2024, in which quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards. Tagovailoa and the offense averaged a robust 29.2 points per game, the second-best average in the league, trailing only the Dallas Cowboys. A former first-round pick, Tagovailoa has played well over the past two seasons, but injuries, mainly concussions, remain an extreme concern for the organization and its fans.

In 2022, the Dolphins played their lone postseason game with Skylar Thompson at quarterback, with Tagovailoa on the mend. Nevertheless, the backup quarterback position remains a vital spot on the 53-man roster, and on Thursday, the AFC East squad added to its depth. Miami will add signal-caller Tim Boyle to the practice squad, much to the displeasure of its fans.

On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins made a wave of moves regarding their practice squad. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter:

Dolphins signed QB Tim Boyle, WR Robbie Chosen, WR Dee Eskridge, and DT Naquan Jones to their practice squad.

Boyle, an undrafted free agent in 2018, enters his first season with the Miami Dolphins and seventh in the NFL. Boyle struggled mightly in college, throwing for 11 touchdowns against 13 interceptions in 11 starts across two schools. However, after a successful preseason, the Green Bay Packers took a flier on Boyle and signed him to the team. The Eastern Kentucky product went 3-of-4 for 15 yards and a pick in two seasons with Green Bay before landing with the Detroit Lions. He has also played for the Chicago Bears and, most recently, the New York Jets. Boyle has thrown four touchdowns to 12 picks in his career, lowlighted by a 55.2 quarterback rating.

Boyle played for the Houston Texans this preseason, going 35-of-56 for 281 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception. Boyle’s signing by the Miami Dolphins on Thursday will position him behind starter and franchise gunslinger Tua Tagovailoa and longtime backup Skylar Thompson. However, with Boyle struggling immensely in his NFL career, Miami fans are left angry with the signing. Dolphins fans struggle to wrap their mind around the signing, especially with Tagovailoa’s injury history.

How is Tim Boyle still getting jobs in the Year of Our Lord 2024

Tim Boyle is trash. He’s horrible! Should’ve taken Huntley from the Browns.

Tim Boyle is the definition of nepotism. Lived a life never having to earn anything. https://t.co/DaRnkbD28L

Tim Boyle just seeing the name pains me, any chance they drop Skylar and go after Tyler Huntley who was just released by the Browns?

Sucks for the Dolphins to lose the "Have to sign Tim Boyle" lottery. https://t.co/fPPwQdlrFZ

Tim Boyle must have some serious dirt on the NFL exec's or something
