Despite being a rookie, Austin Booker is projected to make a big impact on the Chicago Bears during his first year in the NFL. As a result, a lot of eyes will be on the defensive end to see if he can have a breakout season during his initial campaign in the league.
Booker may emerge as a key player for the Bears’ defensive line this season. After impressing in various team meetings, including one with the Packers, Booker decided to enter the NFL draft, opting to make the leap rather than continue in college. His college stats are impressive: 56 tackles, eight sacks, and 12.5 tackles for loss.

Booker’s play style sets him apart, particularly his proficiency with the long arm move, a technique he has mastered and can counter in multiple ways. This skill aligns well with the Bears’ defensive strategy, which favors agile and strong edge rushers. His performance during Senior Bowl practices showcased his strength, as he consistently outmatched highly regarded tackles.
While the Bears have been criticized for their preference for leaner edge rushers compared to teams like the Packers, Booker’s blend of speed and power fits the mold they are developing. Fans are eager for the Bears to add more depth to their pass rush, but Booker should not be overlooked. He has the potential to be an unsung hero, contributing significantly to the Bears’ defensive efforts.
As he steps into a more prominent role, Booker’s growth and impact could prove vital for the Bears’ success in the upcoming season, making him a player to watch closely.
Chicago Bears’ Austin Booker Included in List of Breakout Candidates Ahead of 2024-25 NFL Season

Even with the spotlight mostly focused on Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, there’s still reason enough to believe that Booker will make a good impression on everyone. According to an NFL analysis by Matt Holder for Bleacher Report, the Chicago defensive end.
“Austin Booker is the first rookie to appear on this list, and despite being a fifth-round pick, he projects to make a significant impact on the Chicago Bears’ defense. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Booker outplay his draft status in Year 1, especially since he was given a third-round grade by B/R’s scouting department.
“His combination of length and movement skills give him a high ceiling as a pass-rusher in the NFL,” the Kansas product’s scouting report says. “…Booker also uses his long limbs well to work the offensive lineman’s hands either before or after initial contact. That’s a big reason why he’s able to win with so many pass-rush moves.”
Booker began his college career at the University of Minnesota, where he redshirted his first year. He played six games in 2022, recording two tackles before transferring to the University of Kansas. In his single season with the Jayhawks, he excelled, accumulating 56 tackles and eight sacks, showcasing his potential as a defensive end.

It remains to be seen whether Booker can live up to expectations or have a disappointing season as a rookie. In any case, a lot of people will be keeping their eyes on him during his first year in the league.
