Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Marcus Mariota said, ” I gave everything I had to the Atlanta Falcons.” Mariota elaborated on his exit from the Falcons at the end of the 2022 season. Mariota’s perspective was documented on Netflix’s Quarterback Series.
The Quarterback series showed the highs and lows of Mariota’s 2022 season. Mariota’s best moment came against the Carolina Panthers at home. Mariota helped the Falcons win a close game in Seattle and won NFC Offensive Player of The Week for his performance against the 49ers.
Mariota’s performance dipped during the middle of the season. Atlanta lost four-straight games and Mariota wasn’t playing well. Mariota made bad decisions with the football and Atlanta’s offense struggled. The last straw came on the road against the Carolina Panthers. Mariota threw an interception while falling on the gridiron.
Mariota finished the 2022 season with 2,219 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Mariota recorded 438 rushing yards and scored four rushing touchdowns.
Additional Information
Atlanta gave rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder the keys after their bye week. Mariota said, “During the bye week, my daughter was born, Makaia. When she was born, Art brought me in the following day and was, like, talking about the future and kind of what he wanted to do, and they told me that they were going to play Des for the last four games.”
Despite Mariota’s shortcomings, there was light at the end of the tunnel. Mariota and his wife Kiyomi flew back to Las Vegas where Mariota was able to spend time with his newborn daughter. Mariota also had surgery on his knee.
Mariota’s Future
Mariota signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason. Mariota will back up Jalen Hurts.
I believe Mariota will get another shot to start in the NFL. I could see Mariota getting picked up by a quarterback-needy team after the 2023 season.
