The Las Vegas Raiders started training camp last Wednesday, and have already had multiple padded practices. That’s right, let the excitement begin! So who have been the camps rookie standouts and early risers so far?
Rookie Standouts and Early Risers
There have been a few rookies that have started to stand out amongst the crowd and are garnering attention. Such rookies include; Darien Butler, and Dylan Parham – according to Silver and Black Pride. Other early risers, according to Silver and Black Pride, include veterans Duron Harman, Mack Hollins, Tyron Johnson, and Rock Ya-Sin. Let’s dive into the details!
Darien Butler Rookie Standout
Butler, an inside linebacker, was an undrafted rookie out of Arizona State. He is reportedly working with the first-team defense. It’s worth noting that he has a previous relationship with the Raider’s new linebackers coach, Antonio Pearce. According to ProFootball Reference, the Raiders Defense ranked 27th last year so it will be interesting to see if an undrafted rookie can make a difference. Granted, he’ll have to keep showing out in preseason.
Dylan Parham Rookie Standout
Parham, was a third round pick for the Raiders, which was their highest available pick this season. He’s been playing Guard and Center so far, and it’s clear he has a real chance to start this season for the Raiders with the recent retirement of Denzelle Good. The interior line for the Raiders has needed work for some time, we’ll see if Parham can make an impact early and often.
Duron Harman Early Riser
Harman is a veteran safety that most recently played for the Falcons, signing with the Raiders this offseason on a one-year deal. He was originally projected to play behind Jonathan Abrams, so it will be interesting to see how this one plays out through the rest of camp. Duron Could also provide some much needed veteran presence to the defense.
Mack Hollins & Tyron Johnson Early Risers
The Raiders likely have their receiving core locked up, with Davante Adams being the star piece to that offense. However, two receivers have shown early promise in camp so far. Mack Hollins is a seasoned vet that signed this offseason. The Athletic even went as far as to predict Hollins as having a career year with the raiders this season. Meanwhile, Tyron went undrafted in 2019, and is on his sixth team since coming into the league. What’s most noteworthy about his presence has been his insane speed. Wow, go figure – the Raiders are impressed by speed. What else is new? We’ll see if he makes the final roster.
Rock Ya-Sin Early Riser
Rock was acquired through a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, for Defensive End Yannick Ngakoue, in March this offseason. This was a much needed hole for the Raiders defense, and it’s no surprise that Rock is filling in that gap. Rock has reportedly made significant improvements year over year, and will look to keep this trend going with his new team.
