Tom Brady is once again on a recruiting rampage. Hall-of-Fame bound wide receiver Julio Jones is headed back to the NFC South to compete against his former team. Tampa Bay officially signed Jones to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Ian Rappaport reported the deal is worth $6 million, with a max payout of $8 million. Brady wants his weapons!
The Buccaneers are clearly looking to stack their wide receiver core. Brady already personally brought Russel Gage to the team earlier this off-season. Chris Godwin avoided starting camp on the PUP list, however it’s unclear on when he is likely to return.
Clearly, the Bucs are looking to replace Rob Gronkowski, who is reportedly sticking adamantly to his retirement plan. Head Coach Todd Bowles was quoted by Nfl.com saying “Well, he’s still a good football player. We’ve got to replace Gronk’s catches. We’ve got an extra weapon, especially in the red zone and out in the field and we’re going to put him to use. It gives us a chance to be more creative in some of the things we do, and we’re happy to have him.”
Julio Jones on the Tennessee Titans
Jones previous season at Tennessee was not a career highlight for him. Last year, the veteran wide receiver posted 31 total receptions and 434 yards, an absolute career low. He’ll look to bounce back and live up to his Hall-of-Fame career on the back of another future hall-of-famer. According to ESPN Stats and Info, Julio Jones has averaged 95.5 yards per game through his career. That’s the highest average receiving yards per game with a minimum of 100 games.
