Darren Waller Contract Negotiations
Darren Waller reported to the Las Vegas Raiders training camp facility last week, despite ongoing contract negotiations. Waller has been vocal about wanting to restructure his 4 year, $29.8 million dollar deal that he signed in 2019. Often recognized as one of the top TE’s in the league, Waller is undoubtedly looking for his payday. The Raiders have already made significant deals with WR’s Devante Adams and Hunter Renfrow.
Waller has ranked as the number 2 receiving tight end, behind Travis Kelce, which significantly over performs his current contract as the 17th highest paid tight end in the league. It’s a good sign for the Raiders that Waller is willing to work towards a new contract while focusing on playing football, letting his new agent, Damarius Bilbo, focus on securing the bag.
Denzel Perryman Contract Negotiations
The Raiders are working with another veteran Pro Bowl teammate, Linebacker Denzel Perryman, on a new deal. Despite these contract negotiations, Perryman showed up to training camp today as well, after leading the Raiders last year in a career high 154 solo tackles coming off a trade from the Panthers. Similar to Waller, Perryman was quoted by NFL.com saying, “My agent Ron Butler is handling that. I just want to play football. That’s it. I was waiting on it. That’s why I’m sweating.”. Needless to say, the Raiders are building to compete in one of the toughest divisions this year, the AFC West, and need all the help they can get. After hiring a new head coach, Josh McDaniels, the news that the pro bowl veterans won’t be holding out comes as a breath of fresh air.
