LSU Football Lands Signing From Proven Top Ranked ’24 In-State Recruit

The LSU football staff has successfully received a signed letter of intent from the top-ranked player in Louisiana in the 2024 class.

Dominick McKinley, a 2024 five-star defensive lineman from Lafayette, Louisiana, had long been considered to be a player that would leave the state. However, Head Coach Brian Kelly and his staff recruited the defensive lineman hard and were able to land his commitment in the end. LSU football has now solidified the commitments of the top four in-state recruits in the 2024 class.

After committing to the Texas A&M Aggies early on, Dominick McKinley signed his letter of intent with the LSU Tigers football program. In the past few months since the firing of Head Coach Jimbo Fisher, LSU has pulled away a total of four commitments from the Aggies. McKinley now highlights the ninth-ranked recruiting class in the country for the Tigers as LSU continues their dominance recruiting inside their own state.

When Head Coach Brian Kelly was first hired, one of the main concerns among Tigers’ fans and analysts alike was that Kelly would struggle recruiting the South. However, Kelly has quickly proved the Tigers are serious and will work to land the recruits they have their eye on. In particular, the success within Louisiana is a massive boost due to the talent the state consistently produces.

Currently with the signing of Dominick McKinley, LSU football has commitments from the top Louisiana recruit in both the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes. 2025 four-star running back Harlem Berry committed to the Tigers early last month after claiming the top spot in the ranking in Louisiana. In the earliest 2026 rankings, offensive tackle Lamar Brown is the top ranked player in-state, and he has already made his way to campus.

With LSU football already holding commitments from the top ranked recruits in Louisiana in both the 2024 and 2025 classes, it would be quite the feat to land Brown as well.

A Look Ahead: LSU Football Preparing For Revamped 2024 Season

As successful as the LSU Tigers were at times this past season, including the success of Heisman Award winner Jayden Daniels, there were also plenty of bad moments. In particular, the LSU defense which is typically feared played some of their worst football to date. Heading into their game against Missouri, LSU football saw their passing defense drop to the 120th ranking in the FBS.

Heading into next season with an abundance of talent on both sides of the ball, LSU will expect a much different result from what they had this season. For the Tigers, that will truly start on the defensive side of the ball.
