The Florida State Seminoles football program continues to be a hot topic of conversation after being left out of the College Football Playoff despite going undefeated and winning the ACC Championship. Former Seminoles bench boss Jimbo Fisher appeared on Barstool Sports’ Padron My Take on Friday, giving his opinion on why FSU deserved to make the four-team playoff. However, he also discussed his tenure with Florida State, where he led the team from 2010 to 2017. He won a title in 2013, beating the Auburn Tigers in the BCS Championship. Fisher crowned the 2013 team as the greatest college football team in history.

Jimbo Fisher: Talks 2013 Florida State Seminoles
When speaking on Barstool Sports’ flagship show, Fisher said, “The 2013 team at Florida State, you realize they had the biggest point differential in college football history with a team that has played at least ten games. That 2013 team won by 39.5 points per game.”
The Seminoles dominated during the 2013 campaign, beating five ranked teams en route to their third title. Their closest game came against fellow unbeaten Auburn in the BCS Championship game, eventually winning 34-31. Quarterback Jameis Winston won the Heisman Trophy Award that season, throwing for 4,057 yards and 40 touchdowns against ten picks.
Fisher continued, “LSU broke the offensive record that year, beat us by one point in total points scored in a season but had one more game, and we had Jameis out in five games at halftime. We averaged 51.6 and gave up 12.”
FSU trailed just the LSU Tigers for the most points scored in college football that season despite gunslinger Jameis Winston routinely missing the end of blowouts. The Seminoles dropped more than 40 points in every game except a 37-7 road win at rival Florida and a 34-31 win in the title game. Meanwhile, the defense held opponents to single digits seven times. Their most impressive feat was a shutout performance against then-ranked Maryland.
“Lamarcus Joyner, Telvin Smith, Timmy Jernigan, Devonta Freeman, I have been able to be around so many unbelievable football players. I mean, Ronald Darby, P.J. Williams, Jalen Ramsey, Derwin James, Dalvin Cook, Karlos Williams.”
Joyner, Smith, Ramsey, Darby, P.J. Williams, and Jernigan highlighted the historic FSU defense. Joyner led the team with 5.5 sacks, while Jernigan had 11.0 TFLs. Smith posted a team-best 90 tackles and three interceptions. Meanwhile, Darby, Williams, and Ramsey combined for six interceptions and a touchdown.
Greatest College Football Teams of the Last 25 Years
The 2001 Miami Hurricanes, 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide, 2019 LSU Tigers, and 2004 USC Trojans are primarily considered the best teams of the last quarter century. The 2001 Hurricanes housed arguably the most extraordinary roster and defense of all time, while the 2019 LSU team, behind Heisman winner Joe Burrow, broke offensive records. However, the 2020 Alabama and 2004 USC teams have also earned recognition.
