The tight end position needs to be addressed by the Los Angeles Chargers this summer since they only have Donald Parham and Stone Smartt as their only such players under contract, and they can easily do that in the 2024 NFL Draft since they have the No. 5 pick.
According to various draft analysts, Brock Bowers is the best tight end in the 2024 draft class since he is capable of making an immediate impact, making him the popular choice.
The two parties met on Wednesday during the NFL Scouting Combine, and Bowers said that he has already spoken to Jim Harbaugh, who was appointed as the new head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers in January.
“I met with the Chargers the other night,” said Bowers via Sports Illustrated’s Gilbert Manzano. “Me and Coach Harbaugh talked about when we played them (Michigan) in 2021 when he was recruiting. It was cool to see him again and talk to him.”
Brock Bowers was actually being recruited by Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines when he graduated from Napa High School, but the 21-year-old went on to play three years for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Why Brock Bowers is a fit for the Los Angeles Chargers
In his collegiate career, Brock Bowers managed to record 175 catches for 2,538 receiving yards and 26 receiving touchdowns. He is also a two-time CFP national champion and the only two-time winner of the John Mackey award.
At 6’4″ and 240 pounds, Brock Bowers is a mismatch for any defender, making him a great target for Justin Herbert, and he is also a great run blocker.
“You have to have a good relationship with the quarterback, build trust,” said Bowers on Thursday during his podium session. “That kind of comes through reps at practice. I’ll try to work on that the first place I go.”
“I feel like I’m yards after the catch and just being able to make people miss. Just turn good plays into great plays. I like catching the ball in the flat and make things happen. That’s fun to me,” he added.
With Greg Roman as the Los Angeles Chargers’ new offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh, having a bona fide tight end is a must in the offense, and Brock Bowers fits the bill.
