Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is one of the best players in the NFL. There is little doubt that he will someday be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame because of how dominant he has been for quite some time.
Whether or not Adams will finish his Hall of Fame career with the Raiders is yet to be seen. While he has stated, this offseason, that he is happy with where he is. However, scenes from the Netflix series “Receiver” show that the All-Pro wideout was not always thrilled with the team.
In a recent interview with Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, Adams revealed the one move the Raiders made that he absolutely hated.
Davante Adams Hated that the Las Vegas Raiders Got Rid of Quarterback Derek Carr
On a July 17 episode of “Club Shay Shay,” Adams opened up about joining the Raiders after requesting a trade from the Green Bay Packers, who had placed the franchise tag on him. While Adams and the Packers could not agree on a contract extension, Green Bay did trade him to the team of his choice, which was Las Vegas.
As fans know, Adams had a few reasons for wanting to play for the Raiders:
“I grew up a Raiders fan, being from The Bay, and my whole family being Raiders fans. And so, in a sense, it was kind of written. But at the same time, I don’t know if I would have made the move if it had not been [Derek Carr] under center when I got there.”
Adams and Carr were previously teammates during the college days at Fresno State. Reuniting with his friend and former quarterback was a big reason why Adams chose to be traded to Las Vegas.
On Las Vegas decided to get rid of Carr late in 2022, Adams’ first season with the team, the All-Pro wide receiver said, “When they got rid of him, I was not happy about that at all.”
He went on to explain that he realizes that the NFL is a business and the decision to get rid of Carr was not personal. That, however, did not make it sting any less.
And, if the Raiders are being honest with themselves, they have not done a good job of finding Carr’s replacement.
The Las Vegas Raiders Have Struggled to Replace Quarterback Derek Carr
In 2022, the only season in which Adams and Carr played together in the NFL, both were named to the Pro Bowl (although Carr was named as a replacement player after being sent home by the Raiders).
It is notable, though, how drastically different Adams’ production on the field was with Carr as opposed to the plethora of quarterbacks the Raiders trotted out in 2023.
In 2022, Adams had 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and an NFL-leading 14 touchdowns. In addition to being named to his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl, he was also named First Team All-Pro for the third year in a row.
Last season, with Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell, and Brian Hoyer all starting at least one game, Adams had 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns. He was not named to either the Pro Bowl or an All-Pro team.
As seen, he still put up solid numbers, but fell short of the kind of production that made him an All-Pro.
For what it is worth, Adams has thrown his support behind the young O’Connell so far this offseason. Whether or not the two will develop the kind of chemistry the team needs in order to improve is yet to be seen.
