The Kentucky Wildcats have a very strong receiving corps going into the 2024 season, giving quarterback Brock Vandagriff an excellent chance of finally having a breaking out this season at a collegiate level. The graduate transfer from Georgia played behind players like Stenson Bennett, and Carson Beck with the Bulldogs.
Vandagriff now has the chance to write his own final chapter at the University of Kentucky, however, the job is not guaranteed. Beau Allen returns to Kentucky along with freshman Cutter Boley. Still, the experience of Vandagriff gives him the upper hand and he should get to reap the benefits of throwing to Dane Key and Barion Brown.
The Future Of This Kentucky Wildcats Offense Is Looking Bright
Pretty much everyone is gone from last year, including star quarterback Devin Leary. Leary had a solid season in his one year in Lexington and is now off to the NFL. Leary even shocked a lot of people with his stellar performance at the NFL combine. In addition to Leary all of the backup signal callers are gone as well, including Kaiya Sheron, who threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns in his limited two years at Kentucky before transferring to Tennessee-Martin.
Former Iowa transfer Deuce Hogan who spent two years as a backup in Lexington announced he was leaving as well. Finally, Destin Wade, a former 4-star recruit, left Kentucky with his brother Keaton for Deion Sanders at Colorado University. Leaving the quarterback room with Brock Vandagriff, Beau Allen, and Cutter Boley, the only question left is who will be the starter for this Kentucky team? Many expect the new starter for 2024 to be Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff who was a high-profile recruit who left the Georgia Bulldogs after losing out on the starting job.
More On This Kentucky Quarterback Room For 2024 And Possibly The Future
Beau Allen originally enrolled at Kentucky but transferred after the 2021 season. Is back with the Wildcats to be the primary backup to Vandagriff in 2024 as of right now, but anything can happen. Another option at the quarterback position could be four-star freshman Cutter Boley from Lexington Christian Academy, who has loads of potential. Boley has size for the position and can throw very well. He’ll just need to develop other parts of his game, but could grow into being a terrific player, and if he develops quickly enough we might just see him out there on the field instead of Vandagriff.
Finally, walk-on Shane Hamm rounds out the quarterback room for next season. There is loads of talent and potential at this position for the Wildcats, with very good depth. Kentucky will hope this new group can lead the team to a successful season going forward in 2024 and beyond. Heading into the spring there’s not much question who the starter for Kentucky will be, and that’s Brock Vandagriff. However, the battle between Allen and Boley for the backup role is really the one to watch because that is the heir to the team once Vandagriff is gone.
Boley enrolled early to get a head start on his college career, and it will be interesting to watch how quickly he can learn and develop in Hamdan’s system. This will be quite the storyline to watch in the SEC over the 2024 College Football season.
