Gridiron Heroics partners with Draft Scout to give each school’s Top 5 NFL Draft prospects in the Big 12.

Welcome to a list of the Kansas Top 5 NFL Draft prospects for 2023, as seen by Draft Scout.

Each week brings us closer and closer to one of the most anticipated days on the sports calendar — the NFL Draft. This year’s draft will be held in Kansas City, Mo. from April 27-29. Starting today? We take a look at the Big 12 seniors, the class of 2023. Since we don’t know yet which underclassmen will declare? We’ll reconfigure the rankings when that happens, so be sure to revisit us.

Our Big 12 Draft prospect series will run beginning soon and will run for the next week, with three schools running per day in alphabetical order. A master conference list of the Big 12’s Top 20 NFL draft prospects will wrap things up afterwards. Please check the team links below frequently so you can check out the other schools’ top prospects as the week progresses.

So, we all know that not every team in the country has five surefire draft picks on it. Some programs do, especially in some of the more elite conferences, but the vast majority don’t have that many top-flight prospects. But, we also know that the definition “top-flight” doesn’t always pan out, and at the same time that strong undrafted free agent everybody forgot? He ends up making an NFL and flourishing.

Below is a look at the Kansas Top 5 Draft Prospects, and how they project in the eyes of Draft Scout. Again, for now, we’ll go strictly with seniors (c/o 2023), as no underclassmen have been allowed to declare earlier yet, though when they do? We’ll update the lists below.

    NO. 1 PROSPECT

NAME: Kenny Logan Jr.  (Strong Safety )

    DRAFTSCOUT PROJECTION: 5th round

CAREER STATISTICS: In his 4 year career Logan has 278 tackles, with 194 of them being solo. He also has 11 pass deflections, 5 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and a sack all to his credit.

THE TRUTH: Not a big time recruit out of high school. That doesn’t mean anything, Logan’s ability to make tackles, cover in both and zone and also be a dynamic kick returner will make him a great late round pick. He has the size, speed and athletic ability to cover good tight ends in the league. In a not so great safety draft class, Logan could be one of the only shinning starts in this years class. I love him as a 3rd or 4th rounder to be honest.

    NO. 2 PROSPECT

    NAME: Earl Bostick Jr.  (OT)

DRAFTSCOUT PROJECTION: 5th or 6th round

CAREER STATISTICS: Was a starter at Kansas at OT since his sophomore year even though he played his freshman year as a tight end. Only allowed 2 sacks all senior year.

THE TRUTH: He needs to work on his overall strength and playing behind his pads. The upside is his athleticism, being a once tight end, he has great foot work and long arms. He can bend at the hips and his kick step is very quick. I think he can come into the league as a rookie and play right tackle with good success, a few years in the league good be a very solid starter.

    NO. 3 PROSPECT

    NAME: Mike Novitsky (C)

DRAFTSCOUT PROJECTION: High Priority Free Agent

CAREER STATISTICS: Started 44 games in his 4 year college career at Kansas and Buffalo. He was All Big 12 Honorable mention junior year and All Big 12 Second Team his senior year.

THE TRUTH: He needs to put on some weight and strength. The upside is he knows how to play football. He went the entire 2021 season without giving up a sack or committing a penalty. Novitsky knows how to play angles and read stunts. He will be brought in to play center and could be moved to guard as well if the weight and strength both go up.

    NO. 4 PROSPECT

    NAME: Rich Miller (LB)

DRAFTSCOUT PROJECTION: High Priority Free Agent

CAREER STATISTICS: In his four year career at both Kansas and Buffalo Miller had 184 tackles with 122 being solo. He also had 3 sacks, 2 pass deflections and an interception.

THE TRUTH: He is a throwback inside linebacker. By that I mean he will make every single tackle of a player running in between the tackles and has a bigger frame. Can also play coverage, but does struggle vs. elite speed. I think he will make a team roster based on his motor alone, tackling is an art form and he has it down.

    NO. 5 PROSPECT

    NAME: Malcolm Lee (DE)

DRAFTSCOUT PROJECTION: Free Agent Try Out

CAREER STATISTICS: In his 4 year career at Kansas he has 74 tackles with 47 of them being solo. Lee has 3 pass deflections, 3 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception.

THE TRUTH: The production does not match the size and skills. Underwhelming numbers hurt Lee when it come to being drafted. If he has a good senior day, running fast numbers with his size someone will definitely be signing him to a mini camp deal.
