Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs may have plenty of playoff and Super Bowl experience. However, when they head to the AFC Championship against the Baltimore Ravens this coming Sunday, they are going to be massive underdogs.
The Ravens are the clear favorites to win. And while some may think that the two sides are close, ESPN believes otherwise. In fact, on the ESPN Matchup Predictor, the Chiefs were given just a 36.4 percent chance to take the victory.
Lamar Jackson and Co. are in the overwhelming lead, which makes sense given that they finished the 2023 season with the best record in the NFL at 13-4–though it could really have been 14-3 had they not rested their starters in Week 18.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens Preview
Despite what the ESPN analysis say, it doesn’t really mean that much come gameday. Remember, the Dallas Cowboys were also overwhelming favorites against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round but ended up getting demolished.
Of course, the Ravens are no Cowboys. Lamar Jackson is probably winning MVP, and he’s leading a top-rated offense that led the league in rushing attack. Their defense is no slouch either, ranking sixth overall in the NFL throughout the regular season.
With Baltimore playing at home as well, it could really give them a huge advantage against a team that’s not really that used to playing away from home in the postseason.
As for the Chiefs, their offense remains vulnerable despite their recent success. The led the league in dropped passes with 44, and that’s concerning especially when they take on a defensively sound football team like the Ravens.
If there is one thing that could give the Kansas City Chiefs the advantage over the Baltimore Ravens, it’s the fact that they know how to win in big games. Like what everyone saw against the Buffalo Bills, Patrick Mahomes and Co. didn’t collapse in clutch situations and were able to pull off the victory in the end.
If the Chiefs can keep it close, there’s a good chance that they can upset the Ravens.
