The tragic shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade claimed the life of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local radio DJ who had two children. She was there to celebrate a historic moment for her beloved Chiefs, but little did she know that this was going to be the last day of her life.
As it turns out, the senseless act of violence started over something so trivial.
Whats Sparked Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting
A report by Mirna Alsharif and Dennis Romero of NBC News provides the chilling details of how the tragedy started. Two men, Dominic M. Miller and Lyndell Mays, have already been charged with murder. Apparently, it all started with another group not liking the way Mays looked at them:
According to court documents in the case, the altercation started with a remark about whether one person was looking at the other.
“Four males approached Lyndell Mays and one of the males asked Lyndell Mays what he was looking at, because they didn’t know him,” the charging documents allege.
“They began arguing about why they were staring at each other,” Detective Grant Spiking wrote in the documents of Mays and a group of men involved in the confrontation.
This honestly sounds like the type of juvenile fight you’d hear about from a bunch of middle school kids. Unfortunately, these were full-grown adults who tragically, had firearms on them during the incident.
Miller and Mays reportedly began opening fire without really having any target in sight. Dreadfully, it was Lopez-Galvan and 22 others — mostly children — who were caught in the crossfire.
“Stupid, man,” Detective Grant Spiking quoted Mays as saying. “Just pulled a gun out and started shooting. I shouldn’t have done that. Just being stupid.”
