Tragedy struck during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade this year when gunmen opened fire on to a sea of people leaving one dead and 22 injured. Missouri prosecutors are now saying that two adults have been charged with murder in last week’s shooting after it was reported that two juveniles were detained on gun-related and resisting arrest charges.
Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting
Police have stated that a dispute among several people is what led to the shooting, even with 800 police officers patrolling the area. The two people who are being faced with charges of second-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon are Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays. According to the report, Mays was in a “verbal argument” at the parade with someone he did not know, which escalated to Mays pulling out his handgun with others immediately pulling out their firearms, including Miller.
Two Juveniles Also Face Charges
For the two juveniles who were previously taken into custody, officers indicated that additional charges could be possible in connection to the incident. It is also possible for the juveniles to be certified to be tried as adults, but further information on this has not yet been released to the public.
Both of the men are currently in the hospital for injuries they sustained in the shooting, and they are being held on a one-million-dollar bond. Prosecutors are also saying that Miller is the one who shot and killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the only death from the incident.
Support For The Tragedy
The support from around the globe regarding the situation has been amazing to see, including large donations to Children’s Mercy and the GoFundMe set up for Lopez-Galvan’s family. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany visited some of the kids who were hospitalized, and pop star Taylor Swift donated $100,000 to the GoFundMe for the family. There has also been great support from the community donating to the #KCStrong Fund to help the victims of the tragedy.
