As kickoff for Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers draws closer and closer, NFL fans and media are busying themselves with various storylines surrounding the Big Game. Of course, one of the biggest of these stories surrounds Taylor Swift being in attendance to cheer on Travis Kelce and the Chiefs. Indeed, her presence in Las Vegas may imply that this year’s Super Bowl will be the most viewed in NFL history.
For those that enjoy watching NFL history unfold, however, the discussion of Patrick Mahomes’ ranking among all-time quarterbacks is taking center stage. If Mahomes and the Chiefs prevail, he will become just the fifth quarterback in NFL history to win at least three Super Bowls. He is already the first quarterback in league history to appear in four Super Bowl games before the age of 30.
Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver MVS Compares Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers
As fun as the debates are between fans and media, it is always interesting to get the perspective of those who have played with the quarterbacks being debated. Over the last few seasons, Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers have been mentioned as the best quarterbacks in the NFL, both of them combining for four MVP Awards over the last six years (Lamar Jackson has the other two).
While the debate over who is better/greater between Mahomes and Rodgers will go on for years, it is interesting that the Chiefs currently have a wide receiver who has played with both of them, Marquez Valdes-Scantlings (MVS).
During the Super Bowl media sessions this week, MVS was asked about the difference between his current quarterback and his former one with the Green Bay Packers. He replied:

“I mean, they’re just two of the same guys, man. Two competitors that want to win. I think they’re both going to go down as the two best quarterbacks to ever play this game.
“I think there are a lot of similarities in how they approach the game, you know, how they look at the game. Pat’s just a little more vocal and fiery where Aaron is a little bit more laid back and reserved.
“You know, it could just be their age difference. Pat could be turned to that guy when he is Aaron’s age, but as of right now Pat is a little bit more fiery, and Aaron is more calm, cool, and collected.”
So far, Mahomes has used that fire to make four Super Bowl appearances while Rodgers has just made it to one. Of course, it takes more than a quarterback to win the Big Game, but it sure is interesting to see how the two quarterbacks differ in overall team success.
