The Kansas City Chiefs have lost one of their star players for a significant amount of time. After the 31-17 win against the Los Angeles Chargers, NFL insider Tom Pelissero revealed that the team would be without their star player on defense, linebacker Nick Bolton. Bolton suffered a dislocated wrist which will need surgery, causing him to miss significant time.

Nick Bolton Injury
The linebacker suffered his injury with about eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. Bolton made a tackle on Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen but was visibly hurt after the play. He attempted to get to the sideline under his own power but was in too much pain and he went down near the edge of the field, prompting attention from the trainers. He was then deemed questionable to return to the action and did not end up returning.
After the game, head coach Andy Reid provided reporters with an update on the severity of the injury. He said that the early diagnosis was a dislocated wrist, which ended up being true once it was confirmed. The absence of Bolton will certainly be felt on the Chiefs’ defense, as he led the team in tackles with nine in the game.
Impact on the Kansas City Chiefs
The former second-round pick has been on a roll this season and has turned some heads in his direction. So far this season, he has 28 total tackles and an interception. Bolton in his third year with the team is showing that he can be a starter on this defensive unit. However, it will be a while until we see him on the field again.
His surgery has not yet been scheduled, but will likely happen sooner rather than later. This is an ongoing situation and will continue to be updated throughout the week. Kansas City will now be going with Drue Tranquill to take Bolton’s place.
