The Kansas City Chiefs are in an unfamiliar position while under the leadership of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs have lost three of their last four games and sit at 9-6 on the year. Their chances for the number one seed in the AFC is long gone, however, they still have a relatively easy path to the AFC West crown.
On Sunday they’ll face off against the Cincinnati Bengals. A team who has had their number with Joe Burrow under center. Obviously, the Bengals won’t have Burrow this time around, and today it was announced that the Chiefs got Mahomes a much needed weapon back.
The Kansas City Chiefs Add Major Weapon For Patrick Mahomes Ahead Of Their Matchup Against The Cincinnati Bengals
According to the staff at CBS Sports:
Pacheco has cleared concussion protocol and is expected to suit up versus Cincinnati on Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
In addition to suffering a concussion Christmas Day against Las Vegas, Pacheco has also been dealing with a shoulder injury, and he still has a ‘questionable’ tag for Sunday’s game against the Bengals. However, having passed through the league’s five-step concussion protocol, the second-year running back is likely to suit up in the Week 17 AFC clash as Kansas City looks to get back on track after losing three of their past four contests.
Pacheco’s expected ability to play stabilizes a Chiefs backfield that could be without Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who is questionable Sunday with an illness, and that recently lost Jerick McKinnon for the remainder of the regular season due to a groin injury.
Why This Is Significant For The Chiefs
This year, Pacheco has missed two games and left the Raiders game early after his helmet came off during a play and center Creed Humprey’s knee struck him. This season, he has rushed for 805 yards and scored seven touchdowns.
The Chiefs’ offense looks notably different with Pacheco out there. His down field physical running style forces defenses to play the run differently. This allowed Mahomes more time in the pocket to find his weapons down field.
In addition to his 805 rushing yards, Pacheco has 37 receptions for 209 yards and one receiving touchdown. Having #10 out there will be huge for this offense.
