While Nick Bosa might be laughing all the way to the bank right now, Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs are still in the midst of a prolonged contract holdout. The All-Pro defensive tackle has refused to report to the team as he continues to demand a new deal from the front office.
Chris Jones Mum on Kansas City Chiefs Contract Talks
Jones made an unexpected public appearance on Wednesday amid his contract saga with the team. The four-time Pro Bowler surprised the kids at a recent charity event organized by the Chiefs. Clearly, the 29-year-old is not letting his ongoing dispute stand in the way of his altruism.
As you would expect, Jones was asked to comment on his current holdout with the team. The two-time Super Bowl-winning DT, however, kept mum on the matter:
“I can’t really talk about it,” Jones said, via Kansas City beat reporter Nate taylor of The Athletic. “Hopefully, we can get something worked out.”
Naturally, there is an ongoing concern regarding his fitness level ahead of the defending champs’ season opener against the Detroit Lions on Thursday. If it were up to him, however, Jones is adamant that he’s good to go:
“I can play right now,” he said.
This doesn’t mean that he will play, though.
Nick Bosa Pens New Deal With San Francisco 49ers
Just a few hours after Jones’ public appearance, news broke about Nick Bosa’s massive new deal with the San Francisco 49ers. This came out to a five-year contract worth a mind-boggling $170 million, making the reigning Defensive Player of the Year the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. You can’t really say he doesn’t deserve it.
Jones probably isn’t aiming for a $170 million contract for himself, but the end of Bosa’s holdout with the Niners could have a significant impact on the former’s own talks with the Chiefs.
