Justin Fields has been the talk of the town recently after he unfollowed the Chicago Bears on Instagram. For many fans and analysts, it’s an indication that the young quarterback is on his way out of Windy City.
According to Fields, however, that is far from the case.
Justin Fields Sets Record Straight on Chicago Bears Unfollowing
Explaining his decision in an interview with The 33rd Team, Fields shared that it’s not only the Bears he unfollowed. He also unfollowed the NFL, emphasizing that he simply did it because he wanted to remove football from his social media feed.
Instead of getting exposed in the toxicity of social media in what should be an offseason full of rumors and buzz, Fields expressed his desire to get away from it–even for a little bit.
Nonetheless, it doesn’t mean he’s leaving the Bears, or Chicago has already informed him that they are moving on from him.
To make his reasoning hilarious, he even compared his unfollowing of the Bears to not following a girl on Instagram, sharing that it doesn’t mean he doesn’t “mess” with the said girl even if he’s not following her.
“I’m glad we’re talking about it. Why do people take social media so serious? Like I still mess with the Bears. I’m just trying to take a little break, I unfollowed the Bears and the NFL. I’m not trying to have football on my timeline… Just cause you don’t follow a girl on IG doesn’t mean you don’t mess with her!” Fields said.
Fields certainly makes a good point. Perhaps fans are reading too much into the social media activities of athletes. But then again, the 24-year-old QB couldn’t have chosen the worst possible time to do such thing. He’s been making headlines due to his uncertain future with the Bears, and he only fueled it with his actions.
Justin Fields Wants To Stay With the Bears
Despite the rumors that he’s bound to leave the Chicago Bears, Justin Fields did express his desire to stay with the team if he has a choice.
In the same interview, he highlighted that he doesn’t want to play for another team. Nonetheless, Fields also expressed understanding that it’s a business and he has no control over such things.
“Yeah, of course. Of course I want to stay. I can’t see myself playing in another place. If it was up to me, I would want to stay in Chicago,” Fields shared.
“I love the city. The city’s lit. The fans, they’re, you know, they’re great. And the people are amazing. I get it, it’s a business and I don’t got no control over it, so whatever happens, happens.”
With the Bears expected to take Caleb Williams with the no. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Fields is largely predicted to be traded. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons have been mentioned as potential destinations, though one can expect Chicago to give him to the highest bidder.
