The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense could be shedding a couple of their core veteran players in favor of a youth movement on the defensive line. The Eagles are reportedly looking to shop a second defensive end in addition to Haason Reddick.
The Philadelphia Eagles are shopping Haason Reddick
As previously discussed on GH, the Eagles have granted Reddick permission to seek a trade. Reddick wanted a significant contract extension following his 16-sack season in 2022. He followed up his breakout season by adding 11 sacks in the 2023 season.
The Eagles have only so much cap space to go around, and they need to patch up their secondary and linebacker positions this offseason. Last April, the Eagles spent their first-round picks on defensive tackle Jalen Carter and defensive end Nolan Smith. They need their youngsters to step up as pass rushers next season.
Josh Sweat could be traded by the Eagles this offseason
Per Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Eagles are taking trade calls for defensive end Josh Sweat in addition to Reddick.
In summary: The #Eagles are having trade calls for DE Josh Sweat and edge Haason Reddick also has permission to facilitate a trade. A really interesting situation to watch on the Philly defense as they rework themselves for 2024.

Sweat has been productive with the Eagles
The Eagles selected Sweat in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The 2021 Pro Bowl defensive end has accumulated 35 sacks in his career with Philadelphia. He recorded 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles for the Eagles in the 2023 season. Sweat created 11 sacks in the 2022 season the Eagles made the Super Bowl.
There should be a robust market for Reddick and Sweat. At 26, Sweat will likely field more aggressive trade calls because he is three years younger than Reddick. The Cowboys and a few other teams are reportedly interested in Reddick. Still, Reddick’s price and age make any potential trade a difficult trigger to pull for Super Bowl contenders who have tight cap space this offseason.
