The Dallas Cowboys are trading a 6th-round pick for Johnathan Hankins and a 7th-round pick from the Las Vegas Raiders.
For those of you who are familiar with the dealings of Stephen Jones, this comes as a surprise trade.
The usually frugal executive vice president of the Dallas Cowboys typically plays it safe this time of year, opting to roll with the roster already assembled. This surprise trade perhaps signals there is something different about the 2022 version of America’s Team.
The Trade
Johnathan Hankins has a higher PFF grade than any other defensive lineman of the Cowboys not named Trysten Hill.
The 340-pound defensive tackle saw his role reduced in Las Vegas after the Raiders brought draft picks Neil Farrell Jr. and Matthew Butler up to speed.
Hankins brings a proven pedigree with 271 career tackles and 117 games played in eight full seasons.
The Cowboys face four of the top ten rushing offenses to close out the season including a rematch with the 6-0 Philadelphia Eagles. That game could decide the NFC East and provide the winner with a home playoff game.
It is nice to see Stephen and Co. recognizing that their team is in a window of contention. Let’s see if they can wiggle through before it slams closed.
