Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals just reset the entire NFL market. This is after the Pro Bowl quarterback agreed to a mind-blowing five-year contract extension worth $275 million. Nope, there are no typos there. Cool Joe is indeed set to earn $55 million per season, making him the richest player in the history of the sport.
Joe Burrow Agrees to MASSIVE Extension With Cincinnati Bengals
After a lot of talk about an imminent extension throughout the offseason, Burrow and the Bengals finally got it done on Thursday night. Right as Patrick Mahomes and the defending champs Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the season against the Detroit Lions, news broke about the Cincinnati quarterback agreeing to what has emerged as the biggest contract in NFL history.
$275 million for five years. That’s simply unheard of. Then again, considering what we’ve seen from the 26-year-old in his first three seasons in the league, you can’t really say that Burrow doesn’t deserve this type of massive deal. Someone had to break Patrick Mahomes’ record ($45 million per season), and it just had to be Joe Cool.
NFL Twitter Explodes Amid Joe Burrow’s New Deal
Unsurprisingly, NFL Twitter was set ablaze after hearing the news about the record-breaking extension. Congratulations are in order for Burrow amid this milestone, and naturally, social media had their own unique (and hilarious) way of giving him props:

Congrats to Joe Burrow, the NFL's best QB.

Needless to say, social media was pretty excited to hear about Burrow’s massive extension. Even Skip Bayles himself had to give the Bengals quarterback his flowers, dubbing Burrow as the “best QB” in the entire NFL.
Cincinnati should get a chance to score some early return on their gargantuan investment on Sunday. At the moment, Burrow is trending in the right direction in terms of his availability for their season opener against the Cleveland Browns. The former LSU standout appears to have put his calf injury behind him, and it’s looking like the highest-paid player in NFL history is going to be taking the field come Sunday.
