At the moment, all eyes are on the health of Cincinnati Bengals superstar quarterback Joe Burrow. The 26-year-old is in a race to fitness ahead of Cinicnnati’s Week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after suffering a calf injury on the first day of training camp.
All the injury concerns appears to have overshadowed one crucial aspect of Burrow’s summer — his looming contract extension with the team.
Joe Burrow on Brink of New Deal With Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals fans will be glad to know that according to the latest intel, Burrow’s negotiations with the team are going well. With the Pro Bowl quarterback’s current deal set to expire at the end of this season, it now appears that both sides are closing in on a massive extension.
This report comes via NFL insider Dianna Rusinni of The Athletic:
“Both Burrow and the Bengals have kept major information from leaking, but based on my discussions, there’s optimism in the building and in the locker room that a deal could get done over the next few days,” Rusinni wrote.
No details have emerged regarding Burrow’s new extension, but reports suggest that he could earn upwards of $50 million per season with his new deal. If I were Cincinnati, I wouldn’t mess around at all and give this man the money he deserves.
Joe Burrow’s Injury Status Vs. Browns, Revealed
There’s even more good news on the injury front for Cincinnati’s cornerstone quarterback. According to Rusinni’s report, the team is “preparing for Burrow to start Sunday” despite his current injury. The fact that he was a full participant in practice on Monday and how he’s expected to participate in full again on Wednesday only means that the former LSU standout is on track to start against Cleveland.
Moreover, Rusinni’s source has indicated that the pending extension isn’t going to have an impact on Burrow’s playing status:
“Joe is a competitor. He’s not missing a game against the Browns. Not worried about the contract,” said the source.
This is more than you can say about some other superstars out there right now.
